Are there any tips for calling back to inquire about applied positions? I try to call the company back one week after I apply there, but I never really get anywhere; they usually just say that they will call me if they are interested in setting up an interview.

Unemployment is at an all time high; there are probably 500 applications for every 1 job opening. There is no harm in calling to check on the status of your application once...but unless they encourage you to continue calling, let it go.

This is the reason that an excellent resume is so very important. The resume gets you the interview; the interview gets you the job. Hope this helps.

Yes - don't bother.

I have a friend who used to nag me about following up applications with a phone call. The fact is that companies get flooded with applications (over 100 per job) and have to treat all of them fairly. Bringing one to the top of the pile because they phoned you to chase isn't fair, so that's why they fob you off. My friend believes me now.

So, put all your effort into the application, then "fire and forget".
