Question about redundancy pay?

My fiance has been made redundant and is due 3 weeks redundancy pay. His boss wants to give it to him in 3 lots, so that he doesn't have to pay it all out at once. Is he allowed to do that? I thought he had to do it in one lump sum? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as my fiances boss has already done him out of 6 days holiday pay and gone about the redundancy in the totally wrong way. We're in the UK. Thanks in advance :-)

To be honest there probably isn't really much he can do. He can say no and that he want's it in a lump sum but if his boss refuses then he would have to write to him demanding payment and giving him 28 days to pay so he would be no better off. That's assuming he means three weekly lots of course - if he means to spread it over 3 months then that really would be unacceptable and your fiance should explain politely that unfortunately he cannot agree to the request and, if he does not receive it when due he will be forced to take legal action. |
