Question about employment at American Apparel?

Category: Other

Well, I applied online 2 weeks ago, and i called last week to follow up. the lady said that they only looked over the applications from the website every 2 weeks, and that i would have to wait to hear about the job. I called again today, and the man on the phone said that they had already hired new people about a week ago. I don't get it? I think I was lied to? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Hey there,

American Apparel requires a lot when it comes to who they hire. You need to have the exact attitude, style, hair, and eyebrows that they want. Yes, eyebrows. My 20 year old cousin and my 16 year old cousin who work at different American Apparels in different cities both told me that they are exceptionally peculiar about who they hire. Once you are hired, you have to model yourself after websites like LOOKBOOK.nu, all of your clothing has to be from AA, and they even have the right to ask you to make your eyebrows a certain way. And also, you must be thin.

Sounds impossible, right? For the most part American Apparel is sure no one can prove that they are hiring one thin person over one who isn't so thin, but if you go into the stores from California to Washington, DC you see the exact same people working there. Maybe they didn't like something about you?
