Possible career problem?

So I just graduated from college...

I've had several job offers that I haven't taken. The thing is I think I actually don't like the field I would be going into.

Honestly, I would rather be doing just a general labor job and work outside or something, something that doesn't give me to much responsibility or mental stress on a daily basis. My degree is computer science (web developer jobs for me mostly) I've found that with all my interviews it feels like I'm given to much responsibility and the company could fall and lose a ton if I slip up on one thing (most of the places are advertising and publishing companies),

I don't exactly know where to go to find a general labor job, I don't have any kind of network and the way I have been finding jobs is through the internet but I can't find those types of jobs on the job sites.

Can you guys give me your views and opinions?

Try searching for jobs on the state unemployment site, and keep your eyes open for help wanted signs. Ask your friends for leads on jobs that are the kind of job you want. You might also consider flagger training if you just want to work outside. You could also try sales - there are a lot of entry-level openings for salespeople if you are good with people. Finally, try your local temp agencies. Just some suggestions.

It's your first job, I guess?

Everyone is afraid before their first, or any new, job. If it comes with responsibilities, it also comes with it's own rewards. It makes you feel more involved, important, a decision maker. If you are not prepared for that, you could start with something simple and manual, but still, I would suggest you to seek a job in your work area. Why don't you look if anyone has a web designer assistant position on http://www.designerjobsearch.com/ and how well it's payed. If you are not prepared to take all the responsibility, start little, but don't start stupid.

Good luck with your career!

So you are actually turning down the offers.... Hmm.....

Here is some food for thought: if, after an interview, an employer offers you a job, they feel that you are qualified. In an interview, they typically ask questions about what you have done in the past, and what you can deliver going forward. Unless you are lying in your responses to both types, rest assured that you are qualified.

Also, being a college grad implies little or no professional experience. Employers look at your attitude, the way you carry yourself, how you respond to questions, etc. They also understand that a recent college grad needs to be trained, shown the trade, and mentored (if not baby-set) for a few months.

Unless you truly do no like your field of study, I would say - take the job. What's the worst that can happen? You will earn some money, feel that you are out of place, and quit. It is not about slipping. And, moreover, if you are being honest and proactive in your job (making sure you understand your work assignments, knowing how much time you have to complete them, and reporting delays not on the day it is due but well in advance - when you realize you won't complete it on time), you should be good.
