Please help! Need Opinions, did I do the right thing? My First job?

I emailed a local retirement home asking if they were hiring 16 year olds, and she said yes. I turned in application the next day and got called for an interview an hour later. I got hired on the spot because she thought i seemed like a go-getter, and the lady was really nice. I filled out all the paperwork, called her back the next day and she scheduled me to come get the necessary TB test/shot for tuesday (tomorrow). I didn't realize it at the time, but im going to be away all day tues with my youth group. I called her secretary yesterday (July 4th) and she said she would be in tomorrow (today, july 5th). I called this morning and she said she isn't in today, so i left a vocemail basically explaining how sorry i am and wondering if i could reschedule if to any other day this week, even today, apologized again, and left a call back number. So did I do the right thing? Will i get fired? Im so worried because my parents keep yelling at me about it because they really want me to have this job. Any input is appreciated! Oh and i think this is a private christian establishment, so do you think they will be more understanding since im going to be away with my youth group? should i email her too?

I really don't think it's going to be a problem. There's no need to e-mail her. She'll get your message and will probably just have you come in on Wednesday for the shot. And yes, if they are indeed a Christian organization, that means that you have even less to worry about - I think she will understand. It's not like you did something seriously wrong at the workplace - you merely forgot about a prior engagement. |
