Arguing is a tiny part of being a lawyer, and that's only if you decide to go into litigation of any kind, so don't think of that as a reason at all! It's not even arguing really - you'll know all the facts about the laws involved and you'll be defending your case in a logical manner, it's really not like being in Ally McBeal (which my mum gets realy angry watching because she says the amount of passionate rows portrayed in court are ridiculous!). As for the unemployment statistics, being a producer or anything in the film industry is the most competitive thinf imaginable, so I really think you need something else to fall back on.

If you have this dream you shouldn't let anyone stop you - don't let your parents dictate your future, as keeping your financial help as ransom unless you do what they say with the rest of your life is unbelievable - I would say ok, keep it you bully! Just keep in mind that you will need a thick skin and a day job until you get your chance.

I think the idea of doing a minor or electives in acting or film-making is a really good idea, so then you will have a trade and can make some money, then that will put you in a good position later to maybe quit work for a year to take your chances in Hollywood?! These examples of actors you mention shouldn't sway you at all - there are loads of people out there who have been spotted by just being in the right place, but many more who have had to struggle and work their way up through millions of crappy cameos to be successful. So you should use hard work and dedication to make it rather than last-minute luck.

Also, I think that a degree in Business can sometimes be a bit of a cop-out - you can't really do anything specific with it and it's hard work for someone who isn't sure about it. I vote for a law degree with a minor in acting or film production, whilst getting involved in your college's theatre society and doing voluntary work or internships over the summer in film, so you'll be set up to pick and choose later when you have a better idea of what you want.

It seems like you have a lot of ambition but are worried about what field to go into. If you are on the top of your game you will be employed no matter what field you are in. If you plan on being mediocre, then you worry about the statistics. Like I hear all the time in my field, there's always room at the top.

I wouldn't worry about whether you are good at arguing if you want to be a lawyer. That's why you go to school and take classes like argumentation.

My advice is to do what your heart tells you to do then go full speed ahead and don't let anybody tell you you can't do it! If you really want to you'll find way. Good luck, Senator!

First I recommend you take acting lessons no matter which career field or fields you choose. In my opinion acting and voice lessons are a huge asset no matter what you decide to do. Acting lessons teach you poise, confidence, and stage presence for public speaking and presentations. Actually none of the careers you mentioned are mutually exclusive. Attorneys are in almost every career field and many go into politics in their later years. It is tough to break into acting and producing, so it would be good to have some other skill to pay the bills until you get your break. Although there are lawyers who argue for a living, there are many more who craft legal documents and develop policy. Do some research and find out all the opportunities that are open to lawyers. There are many associated with the film industry. Acting and doing commercials is a good way to earn money while you are in school, and will give you a taste of what the film business is like.
