Out of options, I'm going back to work at McDonalds, what now?

I graduated college in 2008. It took me 7 months to find an entry level job but got laid off within a few months due to company downsizing. And I have been unemployed for an entire year now.

Now I have no income whatsoever, I had to move back in with my parents and the bills are piling up. I applied to what feels like thousands of jobs and I go to job fairs almost every other week but there NOTHING. If anything I get a phone interview that goes nowhere.

Now I applied to McDonalds and got a called in for an interview. This was my first job when I was in high school. My ego is plenty shattered and my parents are incredibly disappointed in me but I have absolutely no other options.

So here is my question....what do I put on my resume? How can I go from an entry-level position to a year of unemployment to McDonalds on my resume? Will companies frown down on this? Will it hurt my chances of getting a job even more? Some companies ask on their application if I am currently employed...do I say I am working at McDonalds?

I appreciate serious answers. No spamming or ads please.

Time to make lemonade. I don't know what your degree is in so I don't know what McDonald's can add to your experience in your field, but there is potential for growth and experience any where you work. I would think more highly of someone who is working at McD's than someone who is not working at all because they think they are too good for McD's. This shows me that you WANT to work and you don't have to be a glamorous diva. Make the best of your time there, be a good employee, accept any promotions that come your way from being a good employee, and continue looking for work in your field. You do want to admit you work at McD's and be honest. Everybody knows work is scarce right now. If you do it right, McD's will give you an awesome reference, the manager will give you a stunning letter of recommendation, and you'll end up with a great job when the time is right.

I'm sorry about your situation, but if you graduated college and can't find something better than McDonald's to go to, you weren't looking hard enough.

Did you even call up temp agencies for ANY kind of job first?

Methinks you turned down other jobs you thought were beneath you in the last 2 years.

First off im really sorry about your turn of events after graduating. It must be really hard for you.

Second of all - DONT put McDonalds on your CV - you should only put relevant experience. Try not to get too bummed out about the MCD gig just think of it as a job to make ends meet. I know a lot of people who are taking some very random jobs just to pay the bills. Employers understand that its a tough market and people need to live.

Keep on with your applications - try and attend some workshops on interviewing skills / CV writing. You might need to take a different approach to your job search. Try and see if there are any free classes so you can improve some skills. 1 yr is a long time and it looks better if you havent just been sending out random CVs you need to show something for it.

It will get better.... least thats what I keep telling myself. :-) without hope you have nothing

Job applications are frequently gruelling - how should you fill them out? Should you follow them up when there is no reply? I suppose there's no single answer but the resource in the box below has some brilliant tips and tricks about this. It really helped me when I was writing job applications recently, plus they have other advice on job seeking.
