WHy are you asking YA for suggestions on your independent consulting ventures? We don't know what you like to do. All of those types of "side jobs" you mentioned are essentially multi-level marketing jobs where you become an independent sales consultant for the corporate company. So common sense says for you to pick a company that has a product you love and believe you can sell because of your personal use.

People LOSE money because they try to pick something solely for the purpose of making money. The best sales people are the ones who are experts in the products they sell, they are their own advocates and are good at influencing others to use the same products.

With that said, it doesn't matter if Avon or Arbonne has over 300,000 consultants out there because 80% of them are NOT successful. This means the average consultant makes about $15 - $100 per month, hardly anything to sneeze at. Therefore, pick anything you are passionate about and that you ALREADY BUY. It doesn't defeat the purpose because in order to be successful you have to use the products. I don't know of any sales person who doesn't know their own products.

All of these "jobs" you describe are actually Business Opportunities - meaning you are looking to be a business owner and with that should expect to have to invest some money - including a start-up fee. By the way, Avon actually has one of the lowest in the industry.

As the LA Boston Gal said, many direct sellers are not successful. A lot of the reason for losing money is due to simple mistakes which can be avoided by taking time to learn how their company works. A lot of people also signed up simply for the discount and to sell to friends and family. A lot of them also expect the phone to just start ringing without putting forth any effort to market their business.

There are many represenatives here in my area but I do not feel like I'm competing with anyone. I'm one of the top sellers in my district and that's because I am actually out working my business.

As far as paying for product no one buys, I'm not sure about other companies but Avon does not require you to purchase any inventory. You only place orders for products people ask you to order and if for some reason they do not actually take delivery of the products you don't have to pay for them. You can send them back.

Maybe you're looking for an actual Work At Home Job where you actually get hired to work from home. Such as West, Verafast, Working Solutions, Convergys, to name a few. These are actual jobs you apply for and do customer service work from home. They do not require any start up fees.
