Nervous about new job?
I started a new job today as a receptionist. It's my first full time job and I was pretty excited. I got chosen out of 20 people who were interviewed! And I have NO previous experience! I'm starting to get really nervous about going back tomorrow. It's really nice there, everyone is friendly and inviting and quite relaxed. They all like to joke around, but at the same time they all get their work done. I keep worrying that i'm not going to do something right or forget how to do something and have to ask someone for help for like the 7234809235th time! I don't want to get into trouble. The director is very nice, but also VERY serious. Doesn't smile much and is always in a very serious mood etc... And when I ask him for help I get scared. It's only my second day tomorrow and i'm already worrying (i'm a very anxious person as it is)! How can I stop myself from worrying, and enable myself to perform to the best of my ability so they're all happy with me and my performance? How can I stop myself from being nervous so that i'm not scared about going to work... I want to be excited and happy about being there, not on edge the whole time because i'm scared of screwing up! Will it be like this forever??

Make sure you are organised. If you keep notes and lists of names/phone numbers you need you won't need to ask questions over and over again. It takes a while to get used to a place and the hardest thing is knowing who is who, where things are and who to contact when you need things etc - don't expect too much of yourself - it will get easier. It's better to ask a question than make a mistake because you didn't ask one. Good luck - they must have seen something good in you to employ you. |

It's a new job and you will need top ask questions until you become established in what you are doing. Your colleagues will expect you to ask them things for a while yet so if you don't know, ask. It's better to ask than pretend to know what you're doing and get it wrong. Everyone gets nervous when they start a new job but you will soon settle in so don't worry. |
