Need help with Career/School/Job/Life Choices.?

Hello people, I'm at a standstill. I dont have a job and I am no longer interested in what I was in college for. I want to (and eventually will) get a degree of some sort or trained/certified in something down the road. However, as of right now, it's no use wasting money semester after semester UNTIL I decide what I want to pursue, BUT, at the same time, I dont plan to be under my parents roof too much longer.

So I have a few questions

1) Consider these things. I am a single male, with no kids, living in the deep south in a mid-sized city where the cost of living is actually below national average. If I decide to take on any full time common job I can find around town (Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Best Buy, Sears, JC Penney, etc.)..would I be able to live on my own in an apartment and still have a few dollars left over to just enjoy myself on the weekends in town (nothing fancy..movies, club, etc.). I just want to be able to be on my own and OUT OF MY PARENTS HOUSE DEPENDING ON THEM, working a JOB, until I decide what CAREER I want to pursue.

2) What are some alternative career paths to four year colleges?

Bad move and allow me to explain why.

I am quite a bit older than you, but I can still think like a youngster...only with the wisdom that comes from "seeing it time and time again".

Right now the economy is STILL in bad shape. These economic downturns happen about every 6 years or so, with harsher downturns from time to time. This one is being call "The Great Recession", making it one of the worst economic downturns in recent history.

At this juncture, being young and unemployed, the abolsute BEST thing you can be doing with your life is simply staying in college and working toward a degree. Period. If you go out and try to get a job, you MAY get one..but you will most likely be UNDEREMPLOYED. That means working at a job you don't like and most likely earning wages that are far below would you are actually worth.

Also, it really doesn't matter what you get your degree in during college. I've mostly worked in "business" and yes I do have a "business management degree", but I have had bosses that were English majors and History majors and Music majors in their college careers. Just get the diploma and don't look back. What employers want to see is that you are the kind of person that can stick with things and earn a 4 year degree. That tells them that you are the reliable sort of person that will show-up for work on time and do as you are told...which is what they really want!

After a degree and a bit of work experience, where you make mistakes and loose other people's money, THEN you will be in a better position to really decide what you wish to do with the rest of your life. You are still young now, so don't fret of it. Just get the education and the slip of paper that comes with it at the end.

Home working is frequently a bit hard because there are so many rogues who are out to trick you. I have been working from home over the past few weeks, I unearthed some great guidance on the site in the box below which showed me the greatest method to go about it.

If you own a degree - or any other qualification - then you'll already be in advace of of the crowd when it comes to hunting for vocations. My buddy has a degree and he wasn't sure what direction to go with it, but he found some great tips on the site in the resource box below which helped him to decide that he wanted to be a lab assistant. There is lots of help on the site regarding other vocations.
