Before you try, have you already tried contacting agencies on your own to see if he even has potential? If you've sent in pictures to a few of the large kids agencies like Ford or Wilhelmina and didn't get a callback, then going to a convention is not going to do anything for you. Conventions only work for the 1-2% of attendees who are the MOST beautiful and MOST talented. How much acting training does your son have? Has he taken singing and dance lessons, as he will be competing against other 4 year olds who have been doing so for at least a year. And for child models, most child models will never even make back what they spent on professional photos, let alone going to a convention. The average child model's career lasts less than 18 months and most child models are only booked on 2 jobs during that time. Very few child models get booked over and over because clients always want a new face. Your child has the best chance of longevity if he has naturally curly hair or blue eyes, as these are the two most requested physical traits for child models. Just look at any ad, catalog, etc and count how many kids have curly hair and/or blue eyes - it's about 50% of them.

Also, it's not worth going to any sort of convention/showcase if you are not willing and able to move to another city within a few weeks if an agent is interested in representing your son. I don't know where you live, but if you are in Denver and an agent in Atlanta is interested in repping your son, are you willing to move there right away on the off chance your child might become successful? If you are just looking into local agencies, you are much better off scheduling an appointment with them or sending in pictures of your son, and it won't cost you a thing. Going to a convention can actualy work against you, because instead of being judged on his own merits, your child is being compared against possibly hundreds of other kids attending.

Honestly, you are better off spending those hundreds or thousands of dollars on acting/singing/dance lessons and sumitting photos to child modeling agencies on your own

They tell EVERYONE to get their kid into modeling or acting. Everyone with a kid gets adds and invitations like that.

Try getting your kid into little league baseball instead-well at four he would be better suited for T-ball.
