My boss keeps telling me he will make sure I have time to do my work. Instead, he makes me do his work too.?

Even though I work late into the night and come in on weekends the pile of unfinished files on my desk keeps getting higher. When I talk to my boss about it he says I "can't be putting in all those hours. We have to make sure you get your work done while you are here." Then tells me I have to run his groups because he is 'needed' here or there. He isn't helping me, he is making it worse and I don't know how to fix the problem myself. It has gotten out of hand and I am in a constant state of stress.

Tell him he is not helping, and that he is making it worse. As long as there is someone above him he cannot abuse you like that, he knows there'd be consequences. All you have to do is stand up to him. That is if you feel abused or over worked. He may be seeing how you can handle it, are you up for a promotion soon?

Also instead of complaining about not having enough time to finish your work, state it and offer a possible solution, like moving more people to that department, or doing something to improve efficiency, or spreading the work around.
