Moving in 6wks but offered Job interview?
The jobcentre have told me to "lie and not tell them you're moving" but I don't believe this is right, or right to recommend. They explained they wanted me off their statistics, and employed, but I don't understand whether I would have to stay in the town I'm in if the job accepts me? We are in the process of securing our new house (move-in in 6wks).... The other problem is if I did start working and hand notice in the week after I start, I won't be eligible for any benefits when I move, which I will rely on until I start work there (I have interviews lined up but not for another couple of months when I'll be in the are). If anyone has any advice as to the rules and regs surrounding moving on JSA, or any other info, it'd be greatly appreciated. It's just sod's law I get offered a job now, as we're about to hand our notice in on the house we live in!
PS I informed the Jobcentre I was moving soon, but do not have a set date, and that I was applying for jobs in my next location too, and was told that was fine to do, as long as I apply for a job a week where I currently am too.... Not sure what to do as the Jobcentre people in my area are completely useless (no offence to the general staff, but our staff don't even bother turning up to work most the time, let alone offering decent advice!)

A lot depends on your finances, your family needs, and reasons for moving. You are the only one who can weight these factors against each other. What the Job Center advised you seems to be practical. Based on limited information you have provided, I would do as follow: I would let my family move as planned, and will take the current job offer, setting up a temporary living accommodations. At the same time I would follow my job prospects at the new location on the phone and through the Internet. As soon as I get an offer from the new location, I would quit the job I had, and move where my family and the new job is. My regards |

Nobody looks forward to the thought of hunting for a job, and most of us want all the help we can get. After being jobless over the past few weeks I scored a brilliant job after reading the website in the box below and following their techniques for a couple of weeks. give it a try, it certainly helped me. |

I agree about the jobcentre staff - I used to be on benefits and they were absolutely useless, their attitude was very 'make it someone else's problem'. They could never answer a question themselves, they would just give me a phone number, which kind of makes their job obsolete! # |
