Job interview question, sell this item?

The last time I was asked to do this, I completely bombed. If I have another interview at another retail place as a sales person, and am asked to sell something how would I do this?

For example... sell this hat/shoe.

Last time I was told to sell a pink shoe for children to a grown woman. I wasn't able to come up with anything good unfortunately.

First of all, I assume a customer would be looking at an item beforehand, so you can see what they are interested in. If so, and it is a pink children's shoe, then just approach the person, and ask if you can be of service. If so, then say how cute the shoes are, and how similar it is to your small cousin's shoes, whom you just saw yesterday wearing them.

Mention that you have also seen in other departments, what looks like coordinating clothing for young girls in pink. State how inexpensive these items are in that store, she should have a look if she has time.

Talk everything up. Give reasons for that purchase. Remember, you are not selling the pink shoes to the interviewer, you are selling yourself.
