On a Tuesday i filled out a job application form , dropped it off addressed to the human resources manager. wednesday morning i get a call asking me to go in for an interview thursday.

I get to the interview expecting to be interviewed by the HRM - Only no.. The Assistant general manager shows up and interviews me.. she also point out to me that The General Manager had specifically asked her to interview me.. she asks me to wait as she goes to fetch the GM.. apparently he had asked to see me... The GM comes and sits down with me 3 - 5 minutes and he calls the hiring Manager for the department that i applied for to come and interview me.. *** My question - is this a normal thing.. Do general managers do interview now...? did i get the job.. the hiring manager said she would get back to me in a couple of days...

HR doesn't usually interview candidates except for maybe phone interviews.

Generally you wouldn't expect the assistant manger to get her boss unless she thought you were a good candidate, and the general manger wouldn't have called in the department hiring manager unless he thought you were a good candidate too. Without knowing what kind of place you're working though it's hard to say

It is highly unusual. You have not yet gotten the job; the hiring manager will call you. If you don't hear in a couple of days...then call and ask when you may expect a 2nd interview. Hope this helps.
