Is this a fair salary?

I've been offered an implementation consultant job in London's south bank, but wasn't told yet about the salary - but I know that it's at least £24k, and possibly a company car...

Do you think this is a reasonable salary, or should I ask for more?

PS: This is a highly-skilled job involving training, sales, project management , and software engineering

You won't get a Mortgage on that salary - so, unless your accommodation is already sorted you will be living in a low rent 1 room flat on the outskirts of London and commuting in by public transport (of course, if you have a company car, maybe you will be spending a lot of time at customers locations, rather than coming into the office, so can claim expenses, which will help .) .. and even then you will struggle to meet your costs ..

PS - 24k is a 'trainee' wage for a "highly skilled job" in IT ... if you had any experience, you would be paid more like £30k ...

You've won the lottery. This is a recession and most folks are fighting to keep jobs. Take it with your arms wide open..

Sounds good to me because you'll be in the door and have a chance to not only learn but prove yourself, show your worth. In this economy, a job will help you every which way and a bank will add benefits.

That being said, if you can constructively explain why you might need more perhaps by starting with inquiring what the salary nets each time period, you may be able to get another 10-20% if your needs are explained professionally.

That may show your back-bone if you don't over-do-it, but be prepared to say something like, "okay, I'll live frugally but" (and no matter what) say something like "I hope to be reviewed for a boost in six months; thanks I'll take it and look forward to working at this fine establishment".

Good Luck
