Is it worth it to spend $20 to Careerbuilder.com and upgrade the visibility of my resume by 25%?

I am just starting my job search and I found a coupon code for 25% off any upgrade for Careerbuilder.com and I am wondering if I should take the bait. Does anyone think it pays off or do you get flagged by recruiters as being desperate? Any ideas?

I've always found those sorts of deals really skeptical. Unless you're willing to do any job and go anywhere, I'd guess you'd get scammers, temp jobs or other things that aren't helpful. You might get some good leads, but you'll probably have to do a LOT of wading to get through the junk.

I'd advise you do things like use LinkedIn or Facebook (although I have concerns about the latter) to make connections with people you know and let them know you're looking for a job. Usually going through your networks are more helpful and effective than shooting your resume out there into the black hole.

Good luck!
