Is it better to apply closer to your "start date" for a summer job?

I am starting to look for a full time summer job. I am senior in high school going into college in the fall. I've never had a job before and am not sure when to start applying. I plan on actually being able to work June 7th (the day after graduation). Should I apply now? or should I wait a week or two closer to the date I can actually work?

You can start now, but at least within 2 weeks of when you'd like to start. Start filling out the applications and start submitting them no later than May 24th. If you can find one, get a general application that you can take home with you. Complete it in full, don't leave anything blank unless it doesn't apply to you.

Then when you go job hunting, take it with you. It will save time filling out the other applications that won't let you leave the office with them because you'll have the one you completed to use as a model:)

Good luck.
