Is it bad that I'm less social and more quiet at work?

I am generally a very quiet and shy person. I'm more talkative on the phone than in person. At work I'm very quiet and less social but I'm not exactly sure why. I kind of like being quiet because it keeps me focused on the task at hand. However, I feel bad that I don't talk to my coworkers more especially since many of them seem really nice. Some of my coworkers and managers I feel more comfortable talking to than others. I've also learned that at work things go around fast like rumors and I think this may be why I don't feel so comfortable talking to others.

I don't think so as long as you are friendly. I can understand needing some quiet to concentrate because I do too. How about going out to lunch with some of your co-workers once or twice a week? |

A lack of communication can be just as bad as someone who talks too much. You need to express yourself to people because if you don't they will start to characterize you in a way that is not true. Be friendly, be social, you will be glad you did in the end. I used to be the same way because most conversations are completely pointless but just learn how to be comfortable participating in them. It builds trust. |

It's pretty bad because in American society, it's look down upon. If you have trouble, they won't help you! You'll be the first to go! One kid at my job was like that. They let him go simply because of that. |
