I would volunteer at your local animal shelter first. I did that so I could decide whether or not I was still allergic to pets--I still am.

Working with animals is really messy work. It's loud. It's smelly. There's a lot of animal poo involved. You get the idea. You really need to know what you're getting into before you decide to invest your time and a lot of money into schooling.

$34,000 is an estimate. It's usually a couple thousand lower than that when you first start out. You could live comfortably on your own on that, but you need the extra income of a spouse in order to afford a decent house to live in and start a family. Most families need both parents working in order to afford a house and children.

Farm? You'd be living far away from town and driving long distances to work. I love the country too, but there's a tradeoff.

34k is a pretty low salary. It's good enough to live off of if you have no more than 4 people in an household and a small house. I don't think you'll be able to afford the land for a farm. However you live in Houston and I live in New York so I am pretty sure that taxes will be quite different.

Its low but at the same time its better then some other people. I just got an offer for a job that pays 45K plus bonus for commission on every sale i make. I would take the job if you have nothing else available.

34k is a good salary. Kids? Yes. Farm? doubtful
