Intern ---- Manager Company Question?

Hello,
I am currently working at a utility company as an engineering intern. This is my second semester rotation with the company. Both semesters I worked for the same manager.
During my first term, my manager was a project manager and I had a lot to do with getting his project moving . When I returned he had got promoted into program management in which he is currently responsible for a project worth over $100 million.
I am interested in working for the company and have asked him if he was interested in hiring me into the company before and this was his response "if I feel you are an asset to the company at the time, then I will hire you" . However, I have mixed feelings about this, because if a managers want you into to the company they usually have to go out of their way to make sure you have a position with the company by talking to different employee's.
I have this mixed feeling about him, because I always get complemented about tasks I complete, but yet I never see him talking to other people about getting me into the company. Now that I think of it I feel like he is manipulator that will say good to get personal gain.
Just a couple of days ago 3 interns from my previous group (first semester) got hired into the company. And while we had different managers, that manager tried very hard to get them in.
And right now another manager is working hard with this other intern in our group to get him in.
So should I talk to my manager about this? Should I tell him what I really feel? and if doesn't really answer my question by going around it. Then what should I do?
I am thinking about going up to him and just telling him that I do not really want to work for your company any more.
