If your credit score sucks should you maybe mention it to a potential employer before the background check?
I've been late on two student loan payments that I'm in the process of trying to defer. Not only that I closed a credit card unknowingly that that is considered a "bad thing" on your credit report. Should I be up front and honest about this before they do the background check? I mean the reason why I'm trying to find better employment is so that I can make more money thus being more able to afford to pay my bills without breaking even each month! Suggestions please :)

I have spent the last year and a half researching and testing background check services for a consumer review site (http://www.CompleteReviews.net ) and in that time have run tons of background checks using many different companies. I would not recommend you offer this information up front unless they ask you specific questions about your credit. Not all employment background checks look at credit info. I think you would only be discrediting yourself necessarily. |

I believe I would mention the situation, but not the details. Closing a credit card is not that big a deal, and the student loan thing is no biggie either. Most of the time they are looking for people who have a blatant disregard for paying their bills, because they believe it shows the person to be irresponsible. I would just say "I'm not sure if your company will run a credit check, but I have a couple of student loan issues, but I am working with my lender on those." If everything else looks good, I'm sure they will appreciate your honesty. But as I said before, if these are the only negative things, I wouldn't worry so much about it. |

No they dont need to know that and there are tons of people with bad credit who still have jobs. it wont usually keep you from geting hired. if people with bad credit were denied jobs, most people in the u.s. would be unemployed. |

Do NOT mention any of this. |

Don't tell them anything they don't specifically ask you about. And your credit situation doesn't sound that bad. Times are tough, people miss payments on bills. While it sounds like you wouldn't be able to get a very good rate on a mortgage (right now) with your credit history, nothing you've done means that you're unemployable. Even if they find these things in their background check, it isn't likely that it will cost you the job (everything else being equal). |

No because not every employer will check for your credit, most will only check for crimes and job history |
