If I surpass my mentor in doing something, would he be happy or unhappy?

I have to say I have been learning from my mentor for more than ten years. I appreciate him very much. Recently, a colleague sent quizzes (relevant to our profession) to many other colleagues, including my mentor and me. Firstly, I dare not to answer, then I tried and sometime I won. In the last times, I answered quicker than my mentor, so my name was put in front of my mentor's name in the winner's list. Would he be happy or unhappy? I think I am like his daughter, so he would be proud of me because of that. But we are also colleagues, maybe he would feel lose face. Should I stop participating the quizzes? But the quizzes are really very interesting.

Depends on the mentor. Most would be proud of you.

But after 10 years, you're pretty much on your own anyway, not a new person being mentored although you can always learn from the people around you.

Jonnass is right...give your mentor his respect. He should be happy for you though.
