Identity theft from Craigslist employment scams?

I replied to a Craigslist job posting with my resume and received an e-mail saying that they had received a lot of e-mails for the job, but that my resume looked good. Before they could set up an interview, they wanted me to complete an online "personality" test. I went to the link, didn't complete the test, but was unable to search for more information on the company. In searching for John Sivers and "Batholin Networks", I found that it's just a scam.

What is the reason scam artists target employment sites? Is it for identity theft? I'm a little worried because I gave them my resume with my name, address, phone, employment history, and school. Should I be concerned?

I checked out their site, and found that it is only a shell of a site. Good eyes there. I'm also leaning away from using Craigslist blind adds at all from here on out. It truly is scary to know that your resume with all that fun information on it is out there now. :-/ Makes me tempted to take my Address/phone number off the thing.

You did not give them your ss number - you should be ok.

Check your credit reports once a year for free at

annual credit report. com

If someone else steals your identity - remember you will never be financially responsbile - ever.

You will dispute the item and it will be removed upon the investigation.

Do not go through ID theft services - 2 reasons.

All they do is put a freeze on your reports - which you can do yourself for practically free

A freeze will not allow a future employer to check your credit reports.

I went through this a lot after I got laid off. You are lucky that you recognized this was a scam. People like this prey on those who are desperate for a paycheck. It's absolutely shameful and I hope you reported it to the attorney general in your state.

Chances are the job request was a marketing ploy to get you to fill out the personality test but still be alert that your private info was sent to a dillweed. Monitor your credit report and in the future use a site that's more reputable.

I've learned that the best approach to CraigsList is to Not Even Use It. I've tried selling items on the site and many of the responders were from marketing companies attempting to collect phone/email info for mailing lists.

Save CL for the pervs and derelicts and use Career Builder or Monster.

All craigslist is a bunch of scams thats why i dont like posting on there site. Also if you want to apply for a job the best thing to do would be to ago to the employers site and do it.
