I recently got hired but i am a little suspicious about the job, where is the catch?

I got hired as a Sales Representative for a company called Vector Marketing, which sells Cutco cutlery. They pay really well which is $16 base pay, with the possibility to get more by incentives. I don't have to call people, apparently people call the company and i go to their house as a Sale Representative and that's it. They are very flexible with the hours and i can work part time as i study in University during the year. There was a 90 minute presentation i asked questions, i had a 1 minute interview and that is it i got hired right away.

I don't know it seems to good to be true. Should i be suspicious or not

If they are paying you a "base rate" of $16/hr (extremely high for a part-time commissioned sales position)

then you probably will have certain quotas to meet very quickly or you won't have that job very long

Vector is a real company. I don't know about their pay rate. I do know that when you make a sales call you do have to try to get more leads from that customer. Bought my set from one of my daughter's friends. BTW the Cutco products are pricey but work really well.

A one minute interview and hired right away? Alarms would be sounding if it were me. Did you try researching them on BBB website? I'd also be very cautious taking any job where I go into someone's home by myself; that's why a lot of real estate agents work in pairs.

With any sales job you should always be suspicious. But if i'm reading this right....you get $16/hr guarenteed with the opportunity to make more through sales? That's not too bad. You don't make the calls, that's cool. However, how far are you going to have to drive to make your sales presentations to the customers and will the company reimburse you mileage? Do you have to do any door to door marketing? Is there a sales quota you must make a month to keep your job? These are some questions you should ask.

I once had a sales job working for Kirby vaccuums, and I will never go into sales again because of that experience. I was only there a month, wasted so much money in gas, didn't get paid an hourly rate, and on the 1 vaccuum I did sell I didn't make any money on it. What a waste of time!

Good luck to you though!

Ohhhh Vector and Cutco...everyone will tell you it's a scam, and I personally wouldn't want to do it. I'm not much of a sales person. My boyfriend's friend got a job with them last summer and he's actually made it out to be a very successful position. Honestly though, if you're willing to put in the time and effort it can be great. You're definitely going to have to get leads from friends and family though, and you'll probably have to try to sell to them as well as other people you know. You might have to do a lot of driving; depends on where your office is located and where they send you. Don't be suspicious; I think the company hires a lot of employees, because a good portion of them don't stick around for very long. Give it a shot anyway.

I would say be suspicious. I think they make you purchase a set of knives you are never going to be able to sell, and expect YOU to resell it.

My sister almost got caught into something like that. Imagine walking up to a stranger's house with a bunch of knives!
