I need to write a CV, help?

Category: Other

Okay heres the thing, I'm only allowed to get rats, if I get a job. Now I need some help with my CV, I need to know how to sell myself, what criteria of skills I have, and everything i need to include. And if someone could show me their CV, or parts of it? I would greatly appreciate it !

Here's a helpful website with some samples and tips: http://jobsearch.about.com/od/curriculum¦

Also I don't know if you need a CV or a resume but here's the advice I gave someone else on here about resume writing from my experiences and help from my college career services:

here's the type of layout I used:

Your Name

Address

Phone Number

Email

Professional Experience:

Employer, location - Dates Employed

Position held

* bullet points of duties you did. (these bullet points should include a verb + skill + duty) an example of this would be "Improved customer service skills while waiting on customers in a fast friendly manner" or "Ordered frequently to maintain sufficient inventory" (See below for a list of action words)

Education:

* Name of Institution, Location date graduated

* degree or area of study

* Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, emphasis in Marketing

Technical Proficiency:

in this section you can include any computer programs you know (microsoft word, excel...)

if you know multiple programs I would bullet like this:

* Microsoft Office: Excel, Access, and Word

* Adobe: GoLive, Illustrator, and InDesign

Awards and Honors:

*bullet list any other awards or honors that are worth mentioning.

Bold areas of interest anywhere throughout the resume to make it easy for the reader to find the most important things throughout your resume. (for instance, I would bold the "Bachelor of Science" and then the "Business Administration", because that's important info you want the employer to notice right away)

Also I have learned that the most important thing in the resume are the "magic bullet points" underneath your work history. You don't want to write a long paragraph of your duties you want to make specific bullet points out of them using action words like I described above. Here is a great link to help you with some good action words. Make a list of duties you performed and skills you learned at previous jobs, then use the action words list to combine them in the verb + skill + duty style. here's a page of action words

I know this is a long answer, but I hope this helps you. Microsoft word has some great resume templates preloaded you can use! if you use one, use the same header on your cover letters and reference pages! Good Luck!
