I need some advice about my job?
I'm a 20 year old college student and I just started a new job waitressing about a month ago. Normally I try to find a reason to stick around but it's pretty much turned into slave labor. I am a good employee, I show up early, do all of my work and sometimes extra but I am made to feel worthless and stupid by one of my bosses. About 2-3 weeks ago she tried to fire me for seriously no reason. I went and talked to the owner and I wasn't fired but now I'm just rethinking this whole situation.I usually don't complain but there is so much drama. Now they're cutting my hours back to just weekend lunch shifts (which are dead, I make $30 in 8 hours, that's it). I am literally sick to my stomach everytime I have to wake up and go to work and I'm tired of being treated like crap. I am nothing but respectful to my supervisors and co workers. My managers have poor communication skills and I'm just tired of it all. I know I'm lucky to have a job but at this point I would rather spend my energy looking for a new one instead of trying to keep this one. Even my parents agree that this job is ridiculous and not worth my while. What should I do? Should I try to stick it out or should I just quit? I know there's something else out there. (Oh and I am already having to move back home so rent isn't going to be an issue)

Not all jobs are perfect matches. Each person has a different personlity and work ethic just as much as each manager or supervisor. You have to find the right match for you. You know you are a good worker and it sounds like you are so respectfully give them your 2 weeks notice and go elsewhere, its not worth the stress. |

My opinion on jobs is that they are pretty much your entire life. It's not worth it to spend 40 hours a week someplace if you're unhappy (although there are exceptions, like if you had to support a family). In your case, if your parents are ok with it, I'd give my two weeks and look for a new job. There are plenty of waitressing jobs out there. |

It's a watress job. You could get another watress job and quit this one in about a day. I'm not putting down what you do, but those jobs are entry level jobs and exist everywhere. |

I made tons of money and had lots of fun waitressing days and nights - but I once took a totally sucky waitressing job also and made no money and it was a big waste of time....so, out of the three waitressing positions I had - two were awesome, one sucked...my advice: put out applications everywhere and you will find an awesome position. The good thing about serving is that you don't have to bring any stress home with you or work issues, and you can make great cash tips - but that is the opposite of what you are going through. So, that job is no good for you, find another one now that you have some experience. Go to any sports/comedy venues for applications also, the job can be fun, don't get down about it from this one experience - and definitely do not stay there! |

Hello, My name is Edwin and I am a professional recruiter. A lot of what you do out there can prepare you for the "next" level. Even working in some of the worst environments can almost always be a "learning experience". Bottom line is: YOU NEED TO GET OUT OF THERE. Keep looking for a new job, stay patient, and you'll find something to your liking. Now if you have this situation at every job, you may have to step back and take a look at yourself in the mirror. But if this hasn't happened at other jobs, you may be right, and this is a "pit" you need to get away from. I love my job, and don't get paid a whole lot, but I love my job! Absolutely....love it! Leave on good terms, do the right thing, don't make a scene, and keep your professional grace intact. As much as you may want to say to them "blow it out your pie hole", you'll look back on this and know you came out on top. |
