Im in the 10th grade coming up on 11th soon. my gpa is gradually going down. i started the year with a 3.14 and it went to a 2.86 and then a 2.71. what brought me down was my chem grade. chemistry is killing me. but i have no motivation to try in that class because im going to major in music. my initial plan was to just get by highschool and go to HCC for 2 years under the honors program and transfer to a music school. aside from "start trying" can someone give me some advice on what i could do after highschool?

Talk to people. Counsellors, college admissions, teachers in courses you like, especially music. Talk to grown-up friends and neighbors. Talk to people who are now in college or recent grads. See what they suggest and see where they think your skills and interests might steer you.

Are you taking music now and doing well? Do you expect to make a living with music? Do you have a back-up plan for study and career choice?

This is a good time to do a lot of research about the wide variety of careers that are out there.

Why just get by in high school? You might get lazy if you do that and then college would be harder than it should be.

If you explore various music types, instruments, and the business of music now, you'll know better what you want to do later.

If you own a degree - or any other qualification - then you'll already be ahead of the bunch when it comes to looking for vocations. My friend has a degree and he wasn't certain what direction to go with it, but he discovered some excellent guidance on the resource in the resource box below which helped him to settle that he wanted to be a lab assistant. There is a lot of guidance on the resource regarding other vocations.
