I need help with an upcoming competency / behavioral interview?

I need help with competency / behavioral interviews. I had one last week and I prepared for 3 hours (!) the night before - using the STAR method for every question i could think they might ask. I went over and over the job description to try and guess what they might ask. It was a phone interview, so i had my notes with me BUT they did not ask ONE question that i prepared! I babbled like an idiot and then it was done. humiliating. Now i have another one this Friday. How the hell do I do this? I can't answer competency questions without preparing answers. I am TERRIFIED. What can i do? Please help... I don't think in the structured way that they want me to answer.

The problem is that you are too tense. You need to relax and listen to the question before you blurt out some stupid answer. There is no way to prepare for such an interview because there a million things they might ask you. Standard questions are why you want to work for the company and why you think you would do a good job. |
