I made a mistake on my resume, should I bring this up before they do?

I put down on my resume about a year ago that I went on a charity trip (because at the time i was PLANNING on gong on the trip) but then it never happened. I wasn't able to go, due to passport issues

The same resume was still saved on my computer and it still had this charity trip (which never happened) on it, and without thinking, I started applying to jobs via online.

I eventually realized that this was still on my resume and immediately deleted it. When I had a phone interview and two in person interviews with the same company--this charity trip was never brought up or discussed, neither by me or by my employer. I then got offered the job, and right now they started background checking me.

I realized on my online application that the resume had the charity trip on it!! And thus I immediately corrected it, but I'm worried that they still have the old copy floating around and may check into this because one of my employers knows the advisor of the charity group personally.

Should I tell HR that I made this mistake before they look into it? Even though they never discussed it with me in the first place and I never pretended that I went on it because it was never mentioned?

Definitely. to be truthful is a great first impression. but if u messed up, just be upfront about it

Yes! You need to be honest. Send them a revised resume and a business letter explaining any changes/updates along with your continued interest in the company/position.

Yes, call them up tell them that ur old copy and the one u handed in are different and that they should take note of that and that their was a mistake and explain the situation.

Personally, I would. The fact that you are honest with them will probably earn you a stamp of approval. Just bring it up casually, and mention that you handed them an old copy, and that you were planning on going on the trip but couldn't because of technical issues. I wouldn't say a passport problem because they may think that you are involved in something way worse.

Having hired people before, I would assume that they would be honest about it. I would appreciate it if someone told me rather than just hoped it would never be questioned. It looks bad to have something neglected on your resume, let alone not fix it. Yeah, it may never come up again, but finding out that you accidentally lied on a resume looks horrible, and may cost you some trust later.
