I lack options to start my PT career, what should I do?

-Not worth the read if you're only interested in the lulz. No lulz in here.

-I inquire about any job openings at the only gym within driving distance and the manager acts like a big *******. Gives off a vibe that he just plain doesn't want to hire me.

-I have no other options on training people.

-Need input on what I should do.

I'm studying to become a NASM-CPT. There's only 1 gym within about 30minutes of where I live. The others are about an hour or more. I called the gym and asked to speak with the manager (who I've met before) and asked him if you needed to be certified to train people there and if he had ANY job openings because I was interested in applying. I was only inquiring before I started the whole process. After all, I didn't want to be spending the next few months studying my *** off just for him to tell me they weren't hiring and to see if I'd only be wasting my time. He started telling me that I "need to come down and fill out an application and know what the hell I'm talking about". I told him that's the reason I was calling and explained it to him. He replied with, "Well, you really need to know what the hell you're talking about." I asked him again if the gym was hiring for any positions at the moment and he told me that I "cant be hurting people".

I told him that I understood what he was saying and I was only wondering if there were any job openings at the moment that way I could try to get into the work environment before I get certified.

I've seen some big out of shape looking people working there as cashiers and whatnot so I figured my question wasn't stupid or dumb.

He rudely asked me how serious I was about becoming a trainer and that I should come in and "prove myself" to see if I "really knew what the hell I was talking about."

I let him know I wouldn't be able to make it down tonight because I live too far and he'd be gone. I have to work late tomorrow and he said that I don't sound serious about it at all. We finally agreed to having a sit-down on Wednesday and he said he would be asking me some questions to see if I was qualified to even be a trainer.

I thought he was extremely rude. If there were more gyms around I would even worry about it but it's realistically the only one. I was only inquiring about [b]any[b/] job openings and now suddenly I need to have knowledge of how to train people before he could even tell me. He never answered my question about the job openings.

Should I just say F it and forget about it? Or say F it, file a complaint on him, and forget about it? Or go down there, have him tell me I'm not qualified to work there (I probably won't pass his test at the moment), and come back a few months later certified. Or go down there, have him crush my dreams, file a complaint, and come back in a few months, certified with him probably know I filed the complaint? The guys only like 23 years old and thinks he hot sh*t.

Long read :/ I hope I get some feedback.

I'm not a fitness buff, but I've been around some gym guys in my day. And well, some don't tend to be quite as "social" as you and I. Sometimes muscle heads feel the need to be "manly" in all their affairs. I'm thinking that maybe this guy is that type of person.

That being said, I think that the fact he is willing to sit down and talk with you means he is interested in you. If he wasn't interested in what you have to offer, he would have told you to go to hell. So, if you feel confident in your knowledge (which it seems like you should from your other questions) go for it. Play it cool. Don't be intimidated, be confident. Maybe he will warm up a little after you get hired.

And don't let him crush your dreams!!!! If he says no to hiring you, oh well. His loss. At least it will give you an idea of what other gyms might be looking for in a trainer.

Good luck!!!!!
