I have a "thank you" letter question and need some professional advice.?

Category: Other

I had my first interview and would like to send a thank you letter. (in hopes of getting a 2nd interview) It's been awhile since I've done this so I'm questioning the preferred or most accepted protocol?

I was going to send a thank you letter directly to the hiring manager and cc HR. Is that appropriate?

I was going to email this letter - since everything seems to be over the net these days? Advice is appreciated.

An email is OK and will be received sooner than a "snail mail" letter, although sending a handwritten letter is certainly not out of the question either. It should be sent to the person that interviewed you, and done the day after the interview - don't wait to send it. Keep the note brief, just thanking him/her for the time they took to interview you, with a closing of something along the line of " hoping to hear from you soon" or similar - don't write that you are expecting a reply, or a 2nd interview - leave that up to the recipient of the email ; no other letter needs to be sent to anyone else, unless there was more than one person doing the interview
