I've been asking a couple of questions regarding my kmart interview and I just got home. It seemed short. The interview was scheduled for 2pm ad I arrived 5 minutes before but I didn't get in there until 2:15 because the woman was on lunch and then when I do get back there there are others who are waiting and they are going in and coming out quick but it seems like mine was shorter. Is this normal? They didn't ask for a drug test or background check so I am assuming possibly maybe I didn't get it. Isn't a drug or background check a good indication whether or not they hire you?

As far as the short interview, that can be completely normal. I've conducted interviews lasting roughly 10 minutes. Sometimes the application is enough information and an employer just wants to briefly get to know you. A drug test and background check are definitely a good indication that a company plans to hire you-well, given you pass. Sometimes an employer will call you after an interview has been completed to request a drug test if they choose to hire you. It's hard to say whether or not they plan to hire you based on the info you've given, but good luck!
