I had an interview with a potential employer BUT?

I was called for an interview , and was very excited because I have been unemployed for over 6 months .. During the interview , I asked
questions , concering the job , he gave direct answers , and also
a soldering test , he gave me a tour of the factory , and we even had
a few laughs during the process .. This was on Tuesday of this week
I haven't heard from them , but I have a friend that works there ..He said he is hard to please , and he is still interviewing... How long does one wait before calling to follow up ? He said they would call either way ... So now my hope but its fading , any suggestions ?

It sucks being in your situation-I know all too well how you feel as I was just in it. From what I was told at the local college-a full week is about right to wait to hear from a job before calling them back. If you call too soon then you sound desperate (kinda like dating in a way) but if you wait too long you may not be showing enough interest. From what I was told a week. For my recent situation, I called and didnt get a return phone call till 2 weeks later, by which time I had pretty much written off the opportunity-when the phone call came, I was plesantly surprised. The bottom line right now is that the job market is still very hard-a friend of mine applied at a local rent-a-car company which had 3 positions open-minimum requirement was a bachelor's degree-and they had 300 applicants. Thats the harsh reality of today's job market-it stinks to hear it, but you have to keep plugging away and chucking out app's. Its demoralizing and depressing at times (I was out of work myself for about 6 months and was a mental train wreck) but you have to keep trying and plugging away-if you do, its just a matter of time before you'll strike gold. |

The best thing to do is to call a couple days after the interview and inquire about your application. If nothing else it shows the employer that you really care and want the job. Employers are taking much more time now since the available pool of employees is so large. |
