I gave up singing to pursue a career and really miss it now?
In high school, I was a devoted singer, taking lessons, rehearsing performing, competing constantly. Everyone, myself included, expected me to pursue music professionally in some capacity. However, I have also always loved learning and academia and am now studying to become a professor. I'm extremely happy with my choice and really enjoy what I do. I recognize that I had to decide between the two passions one way or another. I don't think I chose incorrectly, but I want the impossible... to have both. I am a member of a chorus in the community, but even that is difficult to balance with my commitment to my studies. I don't know what to do. I think my nostalgia was triggered by a conversation with my friend: a talented athlete who is studying at a prestigious university on a sport scholarship. I know it's stupid and petty, but I feel like she's "living the dream" and I want the option to have the education as well as the dream too. I miss it so much suddenly, but I know that practically, I have no room for it in my life. Anyone have any advice? Thank you so much.

You can still sing and pursue your career. I am a full-time college student, have 2 jobs (one a worship leader at a local church) and have a girlfriend. Though I do not have time to take lessons or compete, I do find that I can generally find 15-30 minutes a day to practice exercises and techniques using Brett Manning's Singing Success program. The program is a systematic way to improve your voice bounds and it can be done at any time you like. It could be the right choice for you if you can't make the time commitment for voice lessons. I use it when I am in the car driving to and from work or school and it works out great! The link attached is a review I did of the program...check it out if you are interested! |

Just do what you can now, dont over do it to try to "keep up with the jones". Im sure you have plenty of time to do both, one after the other. |
