The truth -- BUT explore before the interview/resume what you did and how this may help you now in a job. You came to a new country to live and learn. What steps did you take to get here - research/following rules adn guidelines to get here? Hoe can you apply this to a job. Did you do any volunteer work.... what skills did you use in that experience that you can apply to a job? How did you settle in the US - make friends -- build on that -- -ability to adapt and get along with other people? How to work in a team -- say from class projects?

Don't get so hung up on it not being a JOB -- use like experiences to illustrate how you will use these skills in a work setting. I would much rather hire a young honest person who wants to try to do a good job and is welcome to coaching and learning - then I would hire a young person who think they know it all already from a series on unremarkable jobs and who has bad skills and habits to break.

Look up resume's online or if your in school ask your counselor to help you with the resume.

it usualy consists of

Full name (legal name) on your birthcertificate

telephone number (cell is better if no cellphone give them your house number)

email adress

then your education

highschool you went/going to year you graduated/going to graduate

college(only if your in college, if your in high school or just graduated dont put down any colleges)

Jobs you worked in like say previous jobs you had maybe you were a cashier at like say jack n the box. you put that down put the location; i guess the manager or w.e for contact and the number.

you can put down references. like past empployers

thats all i put on my resume so yea. i dont have much to put im only 17 and graduated high school with no work expereince so yea. mine is pretty blank. you want to save this because you need this all your life to get a job. as you get other jobs you update the resume. for the cover letter idk i never made one i doubt you need one if your going into jobs like fast food, delivery person, cashier, janitor. stuff like that but you should have one incase to look professional.

Just look some up online. theirs a few sites that helps you make them for free so you can check those out.

What are you studying? Will your studies help you to do some type of work? Do you have a school counselor who can help you find a job?

Do you know other people from your country of origin who have found jobs, and are in a position to help you?

It sounds like you'll have to start with some menial job. Such as working in a factory, or at a fast food place, or maybe a sales person, or a maintenance worker. Or some place that gives you training before they hire you. Do you have experience in caring for children or the elderly? You can take a course which will certify you to be a health aide.

How about going to a state employment office and explaining your problem. They can best help you.
