Depending where bar tending can be one of the coolest jobs ever. Know the menu..... brush up on knowing how to make common drinks.......I.E. Manhattans, Martinis, Cosmos. If you don't know how ask and if someone asks for a shot that you don't know how to do...find out the next day and then write them down so you can reference it later. Be kind and passionate. If you are slow ...talk to the customers at the bar.... especially if they are by themselves. you will find out right away if they want to talk or not. Some people go to bars just to find someone to talk to. Get prepared to hear some great stories and make some life long friends. But unfortunately, especially if you are female, get prepared to meet some assholes. Comes with the job. And finally,,,have fun. Customers like it better and it makes the job more fun. CHECK ID...

A bar tender's job is not any different from a barber or a cab driver. Pay attention to what you're supposed to do. If your customers want to strike a conversation, they will start the topic. Otherwise, just ask what they would be drinking, Oh, and keep the glasses clean.
