I work at sonic as a skating carhop. it sucks, as you can see.

i hear texas roadhouse is hiring hostesses.

now, if i get the job, how would i quit at sonic? would it be acceptable to just walk in and say "i quit" ?

The employment etiquette concerning ending of employment is as follows:

Typed up professionally worded letter of resignation addressed to your immediate supervisor. Find out the address and name of the HR rep for your restaurant and send a copy to them with a "cc" on bottom of letter with HR reference, letting your supervisor know that a copy is being sent to them as well (keeps any possibility of letter being "lost" or a he said/she said type of situation arising and curbing any possibility for there to be a "mix up" with your last check). The letter should state the planned date of your last day. The letter should also have the cursory, "thank you for the opportunity", "enjoyed my time here", ect. If there was an employee, manager, supervisor that you felt went above and beyond or helped you in any way, this would be the time to do so.

For Management, the notice is a customary, 2 weeks. For non-management, 1 week is sufficient.

Unless you never plan on using them as a reference, you can go out in a "blaze of glory" but if you intend on using them, you want to make sure your exit is as professional and cordial as possible. You never want to burn any bridges and you never know who you will meet during your employment time. It truly is a small world.

Best of luck with your new employment opportunity. Hope it all works well.

Write them a two-weeks-notice letter and give it to the manager.

NO, you have to quit in a professional way.Just ask ur manager u want to speak to him/her in private and then tell him/her u have found a better job for your career, so u want to leave the job.Hand in a 2 weeks notice as well

You simply say you are quitting, and give your 2 weeks notice. They may end you right then and there, but the notice is the professional thing to do. If you feel compelled, you can let them know that you have found something that is a better fit, but that's totally up to you - and not required.

On a complete side note, the Sonic car hop who served us today was really nice. I asked how much she averaged in tips and she told me $75-100/day depending on the day of the week. At full time/minimum wage that $35K+/- a year to skate around outside.
