I'm 39 and wanting a career change and need some direction!?

I've worked in admin between having children for the last 20 years, but honestly hate it. I'm a muso/creative type and i've begun delving into writing which i really enjoy. The problem is i have no qualifications! I could now go and study as a mature age student, and thinking of studying writing and publishing, but not sure what courses and whether i should give the next 3-5 years studying part-time to change careers. Not sure if after all that theres much work in that area. Creative type careers are usually rare, unless i can set up writing as a business??

Any ideas from any brilliant people would be appreciated!!

Have you ever though about becoming a fluffer? You have the chance to meet movie stars. Some famous. Some not so. All the while meeting new people on an intimate level. A great experience in my opinion.

If that's not what you want in your new career then just sit down and write down all the things you want and don't want. Then go through your options.

Writing sounds like it would be an amazing career to get into on the creativity side.

Not an area I familiar with myself, but my associates who are into creative writing have all commonly agreed that a good writers group is a valuable aid in honing skill an providing some networking opportunities and info.

There is also the option of blogging with page view support through programs like google adsense for income. Another option is on demand publishing, where the book is printed and shipped on demand from an online publishing provider, so its easy to get your stuff out there - the book is stored in a computer database and there virtually no cost to have you on their roles so getting books accepted is easier. Digital only publishing is similar, but without the printing and shipping cost deterrents.

There are magazines which help with this including user written material in the mag itself. Mentor programs are available, and there's always college which often have writing professors that have worked in the publishing industry, or written published books themselves, and almost certainly know someone in the industry. Some authors and publishing houses also offer workshops.

Sorry it's not an area I'm more intimately familiar but I hope that helps.

Blessings.
