How to follow up after a Job Application?

Hey. I recently applied for a Job as a busser for a restaurant in my town. I electronically sent in the application five minutes ago and I people tell me to follow up with a phone call. What should I say? Do I call now or later? Thanks

Instead of spamming, I will give you a real answer. You call, ask for HR or the manager, then inform them you just submitted an application electronically. Ask them if they have received it. Sometimes it will go not directly to that store but to a database for that franchise. So, they may give you a number to call if that is the case.

Definitely follow up, but if you call right now you might look pushy, especially if it's not a large chain.

Call tomorrow morning. Explain to the person on the phone that you've submitted an application online and you want to make sure they received it. If they don't seem too talkative, like "Yes, we received it," just say "I wanted to follow up and make sure you got it. I'm interested in the position. Please let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know about me."

$jt$ is off track. I didn't see anyone spamming you on this question, and his advice is wrong also. Like Mr. Reliable said, you DO NOT call right away as it WILL look pushy. Companies don't check their systems all day and today is already too late. They probably check them once a day, and in the morning or even mid day at that. I'd wait two days before I call. What you say is:

Hello this is (your name), I submitted an application online 2 days ago, and I'd like to know if you had a chance to review it?" Then they'll ask your name and tell you what's happening. And yes, like Mr. Reliable said, ask for either Human Resources, Personnel, or a contact name if you have one. And, as soon as you get off the phone, write a physical letter , thanking them for the opportunity to apply with them and join their team!
