So I'm graduating with a mechanical engineering degree in May, and I would like to move to california.

does anyone have any tips on how to look for local engineering job. I'm looking for small firms, which probably will not advertise job openings in Monster.com or some other web services. Any advice on getting the job or moving over there is greatly appreciate it.

California engineering recuirter services

Get yourself a head hunter.

The company that hires you will probably pay the recruiters fees.

(note: do not call a recuirter a head hunter - they hate that).

If they company does not pay the fee is steep; up to 15% of your or 3 months salary sometimes

Negotiate, ask the company to pay half the fee.

They will get you the highest paying top jobs there are.

Since they work off commission, they search out the highest paying engineering jobs.

Decide where you want to relocate to. Then get the phone book for that and the surrounding area and look up each company doing the kind of work you seek. Do two things, A) write a good resume that smiles and describes your talents and experiences, B) write your own employment want ad and put it in the area news papers, let it run for at least a couple of weeks.

Don't run off to another state until you have at least landed a prospect. The trick is to get your self identified and generate an interest in you and your talent. Company executives and HR people read employment want ads, looking for unknown talent. And don't forget to get the area's largest newspapers and research the want ads.

Write resumes that smile and are not dry and dreary, be specific and direct but let it sound happy. Like a phone call, the listener can hear the smile in your voice. Send resumes to municipalities, they may not be hiring but they know somone who is.
