How to ask for a day off every week?

Really I just need to change my availability during the week.
Right now I'm in a job that's temporary I keep telling myself, It's min wage and part time. I get anywhere from 20-40hrs a week, it's varies like crap. It's not what I really want to do. I graduated in may of 09 so I just bit the first thing that came my way b/c when I graduate I was looking for 4 months straight
Since I'm pretty much available everyday. I guaranteed 16hrs a week, but if your availability isn't everyday your not guaranteed that 16hrs a week. What I want to do is start volunteering at a place that deals with the field I want to work in. It would be once a week for a whole day shift.
That way I'm at least getting more hands on experience in what I really want to do. And it doesn't seem like I'm sitting at home doing a job I dislike and not moving anywhere in life. 22 right now, so I still have time to get into the field I want.

You need to tell them which particular day you want off and they should be able to work around your schedule. Since it would only be once a week, that's not really asking for much. It wouldn't be too inconvenient for them. Hope this helps. |
