How should I list temporary jobs on my resume?

I lived in another state for a year. While I was there I worked three temporary jobs (one for three weeks, one for six months, and one for five months) acquired through a staffing agency. How should I list the employers on my resume? Should I list the employer as the actual place I worked at, or should I list it as the name of the staffing agency, and then beneath that list the place I worked at? Or is there some other way I should do it?

Your agency was your employer, and you were working on-site at their clients. So it would be the name of the agency listed on your resume and then something like:

On assignment at:

(list the companies you worked for)

(list the companies you worked for)

(list the companies you worked for)

One of the reasons this is important is that when a recruiter or hiring manager decides that they want to hire you, they are going to want references. If you list the companies you worked at, then they are going to want references from that company. Most companies have HR do their references - and because you were an employee of the agency, not the company, they won't recognize you as an employee and could say that you never worked for them.

You list the Staffing Agency as the Employer and the job duties performed at the 3 places.

It looks much better then listing the 3 separately.
