How much do pediatricians make in comparison with other doctors, not surgeons?

How much do they make compared to general physicians, psychiatrists, dermatologists, gynecologists, etc..?

Non-specialized pediatricians make about the same as general physicians - on average between $125,000 and $175,000. Psychiatrists make about the same as well. Dermatologists make about $250,000 to $350,000, and an added bonus is that they have a relatively good lifestyle. They don't have night call as rarely do we have any emergency skin conditions that require immediate attention. Obstetrician/gynecologists make about the same as dermatologists, but their lifestyles are the exact opposite. Pregnant women can go into labor at 3AM, and the doctor better be there. Because this specialty is so risky, they pay the highest medical malpractice insurance premiums of any specialty because it is so easy to sue them. Malpractice lawyers look for ob-gyns all the time because they are easy targets for anything, and they get multi-million dollar profits from these lawsuits. Awful...just awful... |

You could google it to find out actual salary, however keep in mind there are many other factors affecting a doctor's take home (what they get to keep) pay. How much does it cost for insurance, are they working for someone else or themselves, do they have to rent the building they work out of, do they have to hire staff and pay them. Are they on a guaranteed salary from someone else, or is their salary dependent on how many patients they see. There is also now the huge factor of what medicare will reimburse them for certain proceedures. Plus there are always workshops to attend to stay up with the current trends. |
