You can buy a lot of cars that aren't shitty for $5k so spend your money wisely... There's no way to answer your question. You didn't tell us what country you're working in so we don't know what minimum wage is, we don't know how many hours you'll be working, we don't know if you have dependents or how many exemptions your claiming for taxes. All of these affect how much money you will make and how soon you'll be behind the wheel of your new car.

A few months, if you're in the UK, expect to be paid about £4.50 an hour, working say 12-15 hours, that's around £240 a month.

So to get a £5000 car you're going to have to do a lot of saving for over a year!

Whereas if you go for a cheap £500-£1000 car, you can have saved enough within half a year.

You do also have additional costs though: MOT, Tax, unexpected repairs, insurance, petrol, car park money.

Depends on what you are paid/hour and how many hours/week they allow you to work...oh, and don't forget the taxes. Hope this helps.

Keep working and keep saving. Concentrate on school- a car and freedom might seem important now, but if you take on too much and can't even graduate, you'll be working at a minimum wage for your whole life.

Maybe try to do some jobs during the weekends like cutting grass, pet sitting, babysitting, helping people with computers, or other things where you can get paid and not have to worry about taxes being taken out.

You can make between 5 and 10 for babysitting, 20 and 40 a day for pet sitting, 20 and 60 for cutting grass, and you can charge maybe like between 5 and 15 dollars for other things, like teaching people how to use itunes or Facebook.

Best of luck,

Cassie
