How long do i wait after applying for a job, even though people have had letters back?

I completed an online application at the end of april 2010. Having know-en several people that applied at the same time and they have all received letter's explaining they were not successful in their job application. I'm thinking of sending an email but not sure how to word it.

its possible that your still under consideration, but i dont think the companyy you applied at could afford to wait for 4 months to hire to fill that position.

when i was 21 i applied to work at a drugstore and they gave me the old "we'll keep your application on file" line, then 5 months later they actually called me because they were hiring! So don't give up 100% faith, but i'd move on and apply somewhere else
