I've been at my job a little over a year and some parts I'm good at, some parts I'm good enough, and some parts I still struggle. Can you break your job down into parts and see that you're making progress? The other thing that is important here is what does your boss say - because he/she would be comparing your speed at picking things up against others who have started before you. You can't know (unless you ask) how long it has taken others to get up to speed.

Good luck.

In 5 shifts no one expects you to be Johnny professional at whatever you're doing

If you're waiting on tables, well, thats different after 5 shifts and you're still

terrible - then find other work

Every job has a skill requirement list. take inventory of the skills required for your job and identify which ones you're not so good at. then evaluate if you need training, education or just plain practice in order to get better.

if you can't add or subtract easily and you're a cashier then you're going to have a tough time until you figure out how to add and subtract quickly in your head. you have to find a job that you enjoy and have the potential to develop the skills to succeed.
