How do you quit a job you just began in good terms for a better paying one?

Is at target. they are paying me 8.50 an hour..the store just open (Harlem NYC lol)

but I might get hired at a chocolate store..pays 12 an hour....the target store is about to open so they are counting on me. I want to give them a two week notice, but the chocolate place might not wait for me..of course, I have not gotten the definite yes from the chocolataire...but in case...how do I quit? what excuse? I was thinking of telling then that I accepted to attend another college out of state and I need to start leaving.

I am afraid if anything I might lose both.

There's not much you can do to leave Target on good terms. if you leave them 2 or less weeks after you were supposed to start working they aren't going to give you a reference anyway.

just don't do anything until you have the chocolate job for sure. then don't show up for your shifts at target without telling them anything. you won't be the first person to "just not show up" for work, and especially large company chain stores are very used to this kind of thing since they have so many employees and hire so many younger people

Most states are labeled 'at-will' states...which means an employer can let you go without even having a reason - plus - it also means you can do the same....leave an employer without a reaosn.

However, I would not do this until I was hired by the 'chocolate' place first. Once they hire you, give you hours to work and you begin work....do NOT go back to Target.

It really would not matter what your excuse would be, as they would not care. You MUST give a two weeks notice. Here's how it can play out: you give your two weeks notice letter, and then you get hired for the chocolate place for sure and start right away. OR: you give your two weeks notice and then they don't hire you at the chocolate place at the end of the two weeks notice.

Who knows how it will work for sure. I mean, who's to say the chocolate place will even be successful, they might fail and have to lay off everyone!

If I were you, I would just play it safe at Target for now and keep applying to other places that are for sure.

Good luck!
