How do you pass 6 months waiting for your dream job?

I was hoping to be accepted for my dream job, but due some red tape and timely paper work I've missed the cut for this year by a basic error. I have 6 months at least, to kill time in a job I hate. I try to be positive daily, but I'm stuck in limbo....waiting. It's so quiet, there is not enough work, and even when I have asked for more people get mad at me for telling the boss we are out of work! I work with people who have no desire to go anywhere or do anything in life, it gets me down, it's a negative environment. I've thought about asking to change depts but again it's to no advantage, except maybe keep my day active, I will get no promotion or bonus as they know I'm leaving in 6 months. My job is important, i work in health, but hospitals are also depressing and uninspiring places. I would leave but what's the point in getting retrained for a new profession and getting paid a lot less? a way to pass time I guess. I'm sure there are so many people in my situation, you can't move on, because you know your time is coming, but you have to sit back and wait. What type of things do you do to pass the days? Ideas anyone?

Get some books and train yourself on some new things which is what I used to do when things were slack at work. If anyone complains you simply say well I've finished what I have been given to do |
