How do you answer these interview questions?

I have an interview coming up soon and I am stumped as to how I should answer these. I did a practice interview with a friend and this is what he said:

1. What is your favorite supervisor like? I said: My favorite supervisor is someone who is professional, that I can look to as a role model, and values hard work. My friend told me that hiring managers won't really like that response because it's too generic.

2. How did you handle a coworker who was slacking off at the job? I said: The best way to handle a situation such as this is to gently remind your coworker that you appreciate the work that they do, and would like their assistance more often. This way, no one is placing blame or pointing out flaws, and it's a way to gently remind your coworker of their responsibilities. My friend told me that if I were to say that, I'd be seen as being "bossy". When I asked him if saying that I'd go to the supervisor and let them handle it would be better, he told me that would make me seem like a tattler.

3. Why should we hire you out of all our applicants? I said: I believe I have the skills and experience to be an asset to the company. While I understand that this position would be a new experience I will learn from, my experience in the past can contribute new ideas, insight, and questions. I also have the passion necessary to do work which goes above and beyond, and most importantly, I will be a positive representative of the company. My friend them told me that I sounded self-inflated and like I was being "all that". (sighs)

4. Why are you leaving your current position? I said: I desire more responsibility and a different way to apply my skills. I understand that the position is challenging, but it's one that I am ready to take on. My friend told me that my answer was corny.

The practice interview with him was really tough!! I don't know how else I'm supposed to answer these stupid questions, honestly! I had 10 questions and I wanted to go through and I was only able to make it through 4. I am frustrated because I always thought you were supposed to put yourself in the best light to a future employer and kind of tell them what they wanted to hear. But my friend kept telling me that employers nowadays can see right through that and think people who do that are being fake and would rather you be more honest. How am I supposed to do that?

Btw, my friend actually works full-time and has been through the interview process a lot.

Your friend has no idea what he's talking about, you answered the questions fine!

If I was an employer I'd want to hire someone who was confident and respectful, all of which those answers reflect about your personality.

I'd go ahead and use those answers, and disregard your friends silly remarks.

In my experience, I haven't been asked number 1. So, I don't really know what my response to that would be. Personally I just say what comes to mind and not really prep for it because your friend is right that it all sounds too generic. Most employers will ask you questions that more pertain to figuring out what kind of a person you are. What I mean by that, is a variation of number 3.

Instead of them asking why they should hire you out of all our applicants, its much more generalized in that they ask why they should hire you at all. Or in my experience has also been quite vague and been asked as "tell me about yourself". At which point in time I usually just make a joke and they usually ask something more specific like what i do in my spare time.

2. I've never been asked this question specifically, but a common variation of this question is "what do you do if you see someone stealing?" And I guess you have to answer that how you want to answer it, but mostly i'd just say you'd address it yourself, and if it seems to continue then you'd like the appropriate person know. You'd address that person not because you feel entitled to do so, but to just let them know your stance on the subject.

4. That is a corny answer. Just be honest other than saying that you desire more wages.

By making your answer so generic may entice some employers but most of the ones that know what there doing will look right by to someone who's more themselves and the type of people their looking for (phlegmatic clerics are usually the ones). But really anyway, unless you're willing to be unhappy at work because you've allowed the employer to give you more responsibilities that you're willing to take on just because you need a job, I'd really suggest you just be yourself in an interview and keep at it until you find a manager that the real you can get along with both professionally and informally

One of effective way of passing interview and interview question is to be yourself.. Believe me.. Employer do know if your lying or make things up, even if they believe.. it ends up bringing more expectations to you.. but its a good move practicing interview.. its just means your serious on the job.. anyway.. goodluck!!
